Firefighters tackle fly-swarm rubbish site blaze

The waste at the site in Oswaldtwistle Lancashire Fire Service said the fire started at 02:15 BST

Fire crews have put out a fire which broke out on bags of rubbish at a waste storage site in Lancashire.

About 4,000 bags of rubbish have been left at the site of a former chemical factory in Nook Lane, Oswaldtwistle.

The removal of the rubbish, which has been attracting swarms of flies and angering nearby residents, to a landfill site started on Monday.

Lancashire Fire Service said the fire started at 02:15 BST and an investigation into the cause has begun.
